The Lafayette Public Library Foundation (LPLF) was founded in 1991 by forward-thinking community leaders who understood that building exceptional libraries requires more than public funding. Led by Bill McGoffin, then-vice president of the Friends of the Lafayette Public Library, and other key board members alongside Director Sonya Branch, this group recognized the need for a dedicated nonprofit to drive private donations and establish an endowment fund for sustained, long-term support. Achieving nonprofit status in 1993, the Foundation has since been a cornerstone of growth and impact for Lafayette’s library system.
Over the years, the Foundation has funded several large projects in furtherance of our mission to support the library as well as promote literacy in our community, including funding programs such as the 1000 Books for Kindergarten initiative, annual funding for the Lafayette Reads Together program, as well as special projects like the refurbishment of the Bookmobile.
